Well over 300 young adults cram themselves into the aisles of Best Buy on 14th street and Union Square East with hopes of catching a glimpse at the savior of hip-hop. This is written confidently as the genre has unanimously given Kendrick Lamar the utmost stamp of approval for the conceptual genius behind his debut major release, Good Kid, m.A.A.D City. Despite the album being out for just over 24 hours, fans rap word for word with K. Dot and break into frenzy when his TDE counterpart Jay Rock appears to recite his standout verse on Money Trees.  Maybe 20 minutes after singing hundreds of autographs, Kendrick can be found in a small staff office alongside his management, Jay Rock, Ab-Soul and a few friends. Despite the overwhelming string of appearances and performances from coast to coast, K. Dot conjures up excitement as he speaks to Page 31 about his anecdote heavy release.

Page 31: First of all congrats. Good Kid, m.A.A.d City is finally in stores. What does it feel like to put out your first major release?

Kendrick Lamar: Man it’s like—you know, your newborn. Everybody gets to see it first hand and uhm—It’s exciting to get it out there and letting people get a piece and continuance of what I consider rap, and hip hop is supposed to be.
